The social cost of looking after sick children can be overwhelming. Often, overly stressed parents get burnout. Some have other children competing for their attention, on top of the unending daily demands of running a household. Not surprising then that many parent-caregivers lack self-care, which may affect relationships within the family.
Recognising this gap in the community, RMHC Singapore recently piloted the Family Respite Care Programme by way of a staycation programme, in collaboration with our hospitality partners, Park Hotel Group, Village Hotels and Pan Pacific Singapore.
The Family Respite Care Programme is a gift of space and time in support of families with sick children under the care of NUH paediatric home care programme. Our hope is that families will benefit from taking time-out to look after themselves and better care for the entire family. Strengthening relationships in the family would serve to create a stronger and move loving environment for the sick child and sibling. Ultimately, this is what the Family Respite Care Programme is all about.
